The Three Key Principles for Joining a Window and Door Franchise: Choosing the Right Brand Is Essential for Long-Term Success.
As the saying goes, “Women fear marrying the wrong husband, while men fear entering the wrong profession.” In fact, the choice made during the window and door franchise process is even more critical. Based on a survey of nearly 300 distributors, the editor has distilled three key principles for navigating the window and door franchise process:
1. Correct brand positioning
When joining a window and door franchise or other product lines, it’s crucial to accurately position the brand. This includes segment positioning, demographic positioning, and value positioning, among others.
Does the brand’s target audience positioning mean that its consumer base is concentrated among seniors, middle-aged individuals, and young people? It’s crucial to define the target audience accurately. Only when the audience segmentation is precise can distributors effectively identify optimal advertising placements and track customer segments in the retail market.
Brand-level positioning falls into the high, medium, or low tiers within a hierarchical structure. Doors and windows are complementary products in home decoration materials, and their positioning level determines the site-selection criteria for distributors’ retail outlets.
A brand’s value positioning refers to the unique added value that a manufacturer imbues in its own brand. Take latte coffee, for example: compared to the price of coffee at ordinary cafes, the price of latte coffee sold by Shangdao should be higher. This is precisely the added value brought about by the brand—and it also defines the brand’s value positioning. When selecting a brand, distributors must pay close attention to its value positioning.
Of course, before selecting a franchise brand, window and door franchisees should comprehensively assess whether the local market they’re entering— including factors such as consumer spending levels and product styles—aligns with the brand they’re planning to represent.
2. An accurate service system
For window and door brands, dealers are essentially the company’s true “sales department.” Only when dealers’ sales volumes increase can the factory’s overall sales volume rise. To ensure that dealers’ sales volumes grow, it is essential to have a comprehensive, smooth, and systematic service framework—including pre-sales ordering procedures, in-sales transportation, and post-sales customer service—all integrated into a cohesive service ecosystem.
When distributors place an order, they’re naturally thrilled—especially if it’s their first time signing up for a project. However, if the ordering process is incomplete or runs smoothly, it can spoil what would otherwise be a positive experience for the distributor, and the distributor may not develop any dissatisfaction toward the brand over time. For the factory, making the ordering process as simple and convenient as possible is crucial to truly boosting sales volume.
3. A precise and well-rounded brand culture
A nation has its national culture; a company has its corporate culture; and a brand has its brand culture. Brand culture is the core that embodies the brand’s essence, the company’s ethos, and the value of its products—and it is invariably created by people who are passionate and deeply committed. Joining as a distributor isn’t like opening a fast-food restaurant where you can just move on to the next location if things don’t work out here.
To use a vivid analogy: Choosing a window and door brand is like choosing a partner. The brand’s outward appearance is akin to the partner’s physical attractiveness, while the brand’s culture reflects the partner’s character. Choosing a partner is a lifelong commitment, and selecting a window and door brand is also about looking for something that will last. Therefore, whether it’s the brand’s external image or its intrinsic quality, you must fully understand both before deciding if it’s the right fit for you. Of course, during the comparison process, don’t keep comparing one mountain to another—constantly thinking every mountain is taller than the last.
